🧾 Historic References To Jesus Outside The Bible: Part 2 Other Religions

Brother Lance ( Lance McClintock ) Season 2 Episode 191

Send us a text

We are going to cover historical proof of the life of Jesus from other Religions. We have looked at secular history in part 1. Now, we will find that the majority of all faiths and people groups believe that Jesus lived. They just disagree with His identity as the Son of God. But, most refuse to deny His existence!

“All the World’s Religions, They Always Gave Some Credit To Jesus Christ, The Moslem Say He Was A Prophet, The Krishna’s Say He Was An Incarnation Of The Godhead In His Age, Yoga And Dali And All These Different Eastern Teachers Always Said He Has Christ Consciousness, They Always Use Words Like Christ Consciousness. Christ This, Jesus That, the Buddhist Would Even Say He Was a Buddha, He Was Another Incarnation Of God like Buddha Was. In All My Searching, I Saw All The People Were Pointing To Jesus, Yeah, Jesus Was One Of The Ways But We Are One Of The Ways, They Would Not All Agree On Anything Except That Jesus Was One Of The Ways. Then I Looked Into The Bible John 6, It Says I Am The Way, I Am The Truth, I Am The Life. No One Gets To The Father But By Me, They All Gave Him Credit, But He Only Gave Himself Credit. I Went Well That Kind Of Eliminates Everybody, They All Say He Is Cool, And He Says I’m The Only One That Will Get You There, So I Guess I’m Safe. So I Started To Pray To Jesus….. If They All Gave Him Credit, And He Only Gave Himself Credit, And They All Agreed On One Thing, That He Was One Of The Ways, And He Only  Agreed He Was The Only Way. I Had No Choice But To Go With Him.” Keith Green

Rabbinic “Talmudic” Judaism

v Britannica

“The Talmud is a set of books consisting of the Mishna (“repeated study”), the Gemara (“completion”), and certain auxiliary materials. The Mishna is a collection of originally oral laws supplementing scriptural laws.”

v Google Ai

The Talmud contains many references to Jesus, scattered throughout its pages. Some editions of the Jerusalem Talmud even explicitly identify Jesus as the son of Pandera.

Explanation

·        The Talmud is the founding document of rabbinic Judaism and a primary source of Jewish religious law.

·        The Talmud's references to Jesus are often unflattering.

·        The rabbis of the Talmud used the New Testament narrative of Jesus to argue that Judaism is superior to Christianity.

The Talmud

(A.D. 135) Babylonia Sanhedrin The Talmud's Sanhedrin tractate was compiled between the late fourth and early fifth centuries.

The tractate Gittin Babylonian Talmud was written between 450 and 550 CE is part of Seder Nashim.

    Gittin 57a

“He then went and raised by incantations the sinners of Israel. He asked them: Who is in repute in the other world? They replied: Israel. What about joining them? They replied: Seek their welfare, seek not their harm. Whoever touches them touches the apple of his eye. He said: What is your punishment? They replied: With boiling hot excrement, since a Master has said: Whoever mocks at the words of the Sages is punished with boiling hot excrement.”

The “sinners of Israel” at the beginning is actually “Jesus” in the Munich Codex. Therefore, Jesus is described as someone who “mocks at the words of the Sages” and as punishment is burning in boiling hot excrement in Hell.

    Gittin 57a

“Onkelos then went and raised Jesus the Nazarene from the grave through necromancy. Onkelos said to him: Who is most important in that world where you are now? Jesus said to him: The Jewish people. Onkelos asked him: Should I then attach myself to them in this world? Jesus said to him: Their welfare you shall seek, their misfortune you shall not seek, for anyone who touches them is regarded as if he were touching the apple of his eye (see Zechariah 2:12).”

“Onkelos said to him: What is the punishment of that man, a euphemism for Jesus himself, in the next world? Jesus said to him: He is punished with boiling excrement. As the Master said: Anyone who mocks the words of the Sages will be sentenced to boiling excrement. And this was his sin, as he mocked the words of the Sages. The Gemara comments: Come and see the difference between the sinners of Israel and the prophets of the nations of the world. As Balaam, who was a prophet, wished Israel harm, whereas Jesus the Nazarene, who was a Jewish sinner, sought their well-being.”

I, Lance, also have a document on my computer showing Tyndale House publishers acquired one of the 400 facsimiles of the Munich Talmud that is uncensored. Dr. David Instone-Brewer, Senior Research Fellow in Rabbinics and the New Testament, Tyndale House, Cambridge, who also wrote the referenced document this is taken from. In that document, he provides a scan of the original text proving this to be true and accurate. The PDF Can Be Found Online By Searching For The Following:

PDF: Jesus of Nazareth’s Trial in Sanhedrin 43a

Sanhedrin 43A

“AND A HERALD PRECEDES HIM etc. This implies, only immediately before [the execution], but not previous thereto. 33  [In contradiction to this] it was taught: On the eve of the Passover Yeshu 34  was hanged. For forty days before the execution took place, a herald went forth and cried, 'He is going forth to be stoned because he has practised sorcery and enticed Israel to apostacy. Anyone who can say anything in his favour, let him come forward and plead on his behalf.' But since nothing was brought forward in his favour he was hanged on the eve of the Passover! 35  — Ulla retorted: 'Do you suppose that he was one for whom a defence could be made? Was he not a Mesith [enticer], concerning whom Scripture says, Neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him? 36  With Yeshu however it was different, for he was connected with the government [or royalty, i.e., influential].'”

https://halakhah.com/sanhedrin/sanhedrin_43.html

Dr. David Instone-Brewer says the following in the document “Jesus of Nazareth’s Trial in Sanhedrin 43a”

1) Another censored passage at b.San.67a includes the words “on the eve of Passover

they hung …”, followed by other names used for Jesus, “Ben Stada” and “Ben Pandira”.

2+3) The words “for sorcery and enticing Israel” occur at Sanhedrin 107b with a parallel

at Sotah 47a.

4) Outside the Talmud, two charges are recorded by Justin Martyr who said that as a

result of Jesus’ miracles, the Jews "dared to call him a magician and an enticer of the

people” (ma&gon.. kai\ laopla&non in Dial.69).

The name in this tradition varies in different sources and manuscripts, “Yeshu”, “Yeshu

ha-Notzeri”, “Ben Stada” or “Ben Pandira”. This makes it possible that this tradition

originally referred to someone other than Jesus. However, this is very unlikely because of the strange date for the execution (which is strongly linked with Jesus traditions in the Gospels), and because the names “Ben Stada” and “Ben Pandira” are elsewhere linked with each other and with the name of Jesus in phrases such as “Yeshu ben Pandira”

The two censored traditions about Jesus and his disciples which would occur at b.San.43a were brought into the Talmudic discussions early in the 3rd century and removed in the 15th and 16th centuries. External evidence gives independent witness that the earliest core in this tradition was: "On the Eve of Passover, they hung Jesus of Nazareth for sorcery and enticing Israel [to idolatry]."

Sanhedrin 67a

וְכֵן עָשׂוּ לְבֶן סָטָדָא בְּלוֹד, וּתְלָאוּהוּ בְּעֶרֶב הַפֶּסַח.

And the court did the same to an inciter named ben Setada, from the city of Lod, and they hanged him on Passover eve.

“The Gemara asks: Why did they call him ben Setada, when he was the son of Pandeira? Rav Ḥisda says: Perhaps his mother’s husband, who acted as his father, was named Setada, but his mother’s paramour, who fathered this mamzer, was named Pandeira. The Gemara challenges: But his mother’s husband was Pappos ben Yehuda, not Setada. Rather, perhaps his mother was named Setada, and he was named ben Setada after her. The Gemara challenges: But his mother was Miriam, who braided women’s hair. The Gemara explains: That is not a contradiction; Setada was merely a nickname, as they say in Pumbedita: This one strayed [setat da] from her husband.”

As of 2023, there were an estimated 15.7 million Jewish people in the world.

Islam

v Google Ai

Islam originated in Mecca, Arabia in 610 CE. The religion is based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who [Supposedly] received his first revelation from the angel Gabriel.

v Google Ai

In Islam, Jesus is considered a prophet and messenger of God, but not the Son of God. The Quran mentions Jesus in 15 Surahs, and he is referred to as "ʿĪsā ibn Maryam" (Jesus son of Mary) and al-Masīḥ

In the Quran, 19:21-26 is a part of Surah Maryam, which is about the story of Mary and the birth of Jesus.

“She said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?" He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.' " So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place. And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten." But he called her from below her, "Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream. And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates. So eat and drink and be contented. And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, 'Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, so I will not speak today to [any] man.' "

v Google AI

This verse appears in Surah Ali 'Imran, which translates to "The Family of Imrān".

Qur’an, 3:50-56

“And I will confirm the Torah revealed before me and legalize some of what had been forbidden to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so be mindful of Allah and obey me. Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him ˹alone˺. This is the Straight Path.’” When Jesus sensed disbelief from his people, he asked, “Who will stand up with me for Allah?” The disciples replied, “We will stand up for Allah. We believe in Allah, so bear witness that we have submitted.” ˹They prayed to Allah,˺ “Our Lord! We believe in Your revelations and follow the messenger, so count us among those who bear witness.” And the disbelievers made a plan ˹against Jesus˺, but Allah also planned—and Allah is the best of planners. ˹Remember˺ when Allah said, “O Jesus! I will take you1 and raise you up to Myself. I will deliver you from those who disbelieve, and elevate your followers above the disbelievers until the Day of Judgment. Then to Me you will ˹all˺ return, and I will settle all your disputes.”

In 2024, there were approximately 1.9 billion Muslims worldwide, making Islam the second largest religion in the world.

Hinduism

v Google Ai

Hindus have a complex view of Jesus Christ that varies depending on the individual and their interpretation. Hindus may see Jesus as a teacher, a divine descent, or an incarnation. In Hinduism, Jesus is often viewed as a spiritual teacher or "acharya," with some Hindus considering him as an avatar (divine incarnation) like Krishna, meaning he is seen as a manifestation of the divine on Earth, sharing similar messages of love, compassion, and non-violence, even though he is not explicitly mentioned in Hindu scriptures; this perspective is particularly associated with figures like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa who integrated Jesus into the Hindu understanding of divinity.

“Hindus have given Jesus a place among the teachers and gods of their own religion, seeing in his life something of the wisdom and mysticism that is so central to Hinduism. Christians in India also make use of the concepts provided by Hinduism when they wish to express the meaning of Christ.” Jesus as Guru “The Image of Christ among Hindus and Christians in India” Author: J.P. Schouten

According to current estimates, there are approximately 1.2 billion Hindus worldwide, making Hinduism the third largest religion globally,

Buddhism

v Google Ai

“Yes, in 2001, the Dalai Lama said, "Jesus Christ also lived previous lives". He also said that Jesus may have reached a high state through Buddhist practice, such as becoming a Bodhisattva or an enlightened person.

Explanation

The Dalai Lama's statement is an example of how some high-level Buddhists have drawn comparisons between Jesus and Buddhism. The Dalai Lama also believes that Jesus was a man who lived on Earth and was an "enlightened master". However, he doesn't believe that Jesus was the son of God, as Christians do.”

As of 2024, there were approximately 507 million Buddhists worldwide.

Other Faiths

From Wikipedia

“In the Druze faith, Jesus is considered one of God's important prophets and the Messiah,[44][45] being among the seven prophets who appeared in different periods of history.[46][47] The Druze venerate Jesus "the son of Joseph and Mary" and his four disciples, who wrote the Gospels.[48] In the Druze tradition, Jesus is known under three titles: the True Messiah (al-Masih al-Haq), the Messiah of all Nations (Masih al-Umam), and the Messiah of Sinners. This is due, respectively, to the belief that Jesus delivered the true Gospel message, the belief that he was the Saviour of all nations, and the belief that he offers forgiveness.[49]”

“According to the Druze manuscripts Jesus is the Greatest Imam and the incarnation of Ultimate Reason (Akl) on earth and the first cosmic principle (Hadd),[48] and regards Jesus and Hamza ibn Ali as the incarnations of one of the five great celestial powers, who form part of their system.[50] Druze believe that Hamza ibn Ali was a reincarnation of Jesus,[51] and that Hamza ibn Ali is the true Messiah, who directed the deeds of the messiah Jesus "the son of Joseph and Mary", but when Jesus "the son of Joseph and Mary" strayed from the path of the true Messiah, Hamza filled the hearts of the Jews with hatred for him - and for that reason, they crucified him, according to the Druze manuscripts.[48][52] Despite this, Hamza ibn Ali took him down from the cross and allowed him to return to his family, in order to prepare men for the preaching of his religion.[48]”

“In an epistle ascribed to one of the founders of Druzism, Baha al-Din al-Muqtana,[53] probably written sometime between AD 1027 and AD 1042, accused the Jews of crucifying Jesus.[54]”

“The Baháʼí Faith consider Jesus to be a manifestation of God, who are a series of personages who reflect the attributes of the divine into the human world for the progress and advancement of human morals and civilization.[42] In Baháʼí belief, the Manifestations have always been sent by God, and always will, as part of the single progressive religion from God bringing more teachings through time to help humanity progress.[43] The Manifestations of God are taught to be "one and the same", and in their relationship to one another have both the station of unity and the station of distinction.[42] In this way each Manifestation of God manifested the Word of God and taught the same religion, with modifications for the particular audience's needs and culture. Bahá'u'lláh wrote that since each Manifestation of God has the same divine attributes, they can be seen as the spiritual "return" of all the previous Manifestations of God.[42] In this way, Baháʼís believe that Bahá'u'lláh is, in both respects, the return of Jesus.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_perspectives_on_Jesus

Christianity

The Original Source Material For The Faith Of Jesus. While I showed in our previous Bible Study historical proof of the life of Jesus, that outside of the Bible there is plenty proof that Jesus lived. But it is the New Testament that the key concepts of His personhood and mission are clearly defined. All other sources are nothing more than hijackers of the truth, perverting them for their own devilish means.  So, let us see what it truly says and what the facts really are.

    Jesus Born Of A Virgin

Matthew 1:20-23  But when he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.  (21)  She shall give birth to a son. You shall call his name Jesus, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins.”  (22)  Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,  (23)  “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall give birth to a son. They shall call his name Immanuel;” which is, being interpreted, “God with us.”

Jesus Is The Son Of God

Hebrews 1:1-6  “God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways,  (2)  has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds.  (3)  His Son is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, who, when he had by himself purified us of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;  (4)  having become so much better than the angels, as he has inherited a more excellent name than they have.  (5)  For to which of the angels did he say at any time, “You are my Son. Today I have become your father?”and again, “I will be to him a Father, and he will be to me a Son?”  (6)  When he again brings in the firstborn into the world he says, “Let all the angels of God worship him.”

Matthew 3:16-17 “Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.  (17)  Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

Jesus Is The Literal Words Of God Made Into Flesh

John 1:1-3 + 12-14  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  (2)  The same was in the beginning with God.  (3)  All things were made through him. Without him was not anything made that has been made.  (4)  In him was life, and the life was the light of men….. (12)  But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name:  (13)  who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.  (14)  The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Jesus Walked The Earth In The Flesh

1 Timothy 3:16  “Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: God was revealed in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.”

    Jesus Suffered In The Flesh

Hebrews 5:7-10  “For Jesus, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong cryings and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared,  (8)  though being a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.  (9)  And being perfected, He became the Author of eternal salvation to all those who obey Him,  (10)  being called by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek;”

Jesus remained sinless His Entire Life

2 Corinthians 5:20-21 “Then we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as God exhorting through us, we beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.  (21)  For He has made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Jesus, Being Sinless, Became The Perfect Sacrifice For Our Sins

1 Peter 2:21-24 “For you were not called to this? For Christ also suffered on our behalf, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps,  (22)  He who did no sin, nor was guile found in His mouth,  (23)  who when He was reviled did not revile in return. When He suffered, He did not threaten, but gave Himself up to Him who judges righteously.  (24)  He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that dying to sins, we might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed.”

1 John 4:9-11 “By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  (10)  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.  (11)  Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.”

Jesus, After His Resurrection, Was Resurrected Sinless

1 John 3:5 “And you know that He was revealed that He might take away our sins, and in Him is no sin.”

Jesus Is Coming Back To Take The Children Of God Home.

Revelation 22:12-14 “Behold, I come quickly. My reward is with me, to repay to each man according to his work.  (13)  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.  (14)  Blessed are those who do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city.

When He Returns, Those Who Believe In Him As Lord And Savior Will Receive Forgiveness of Sins and Eternal Life.

John 3:14-15 “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,  (15)  that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

John 5:24-29  “Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word, and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.  (25)  Most certainly, I tell you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead will hear the Son of God’s voice; and those who hear will live.  (26)  For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself.  (27)  He also gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.  (28)  Don’t marvel at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice,  (29)  and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.”

Acts 2:38-39 “Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  (39)  For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.”

As of 2023, there are approximately 2.4 billion Christians in the world, making Christianity the world's largest religion. This is about one-third of the world's population.

Top 5 Religions In The World

    Christianity  2.4 Billion

    Islam1.9 Billion

    Hinduism   1.2 Billion

    Buddhism  500 million

    Folk religion 400 million

As of 2023, the estimated World Population is 8 Billion. Out of this 6.0 Billion, they either believe Jesus was as the Bible correctly states, the Son of God, Savior of Mankind, or at the very least, a divine prophet, incarnation of a deity, or the like.  That is roughly 75% of the world’s population. On top of that, they either directly or indirectly state His life or death many such times in their various religious texts, many considered sacred by their religious group. Then, on top of all this, we have many historical references of His life and death outside of these texts. The question at hand is not “did Jesus live?”, as it has been proven an irrefutable fact. The question that is at hand is, who was this Jesus that so many have all agreed lived upon this earth? There is only one book that clearly and effectively, not to mention very exhaustibly presented to us in His own words- it is the Bible, the one true source material of the life of Jesus.

Focus Verse: 1 Timothy 1:15 “The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
