Eternal God, Eternal Blessing: As a Dad, I am only capable of giving gifts based upon my own ability, substance, and wealth. While I try to give the best I possibly can muster and provide, it is always limited by my own personal shortcomings. To the contrary, our Father God has no such limitation. When He gives gifts and blessings, it is based upon His might, power, and unlimited eternal glory. We are a part of an eternal family, based upon the eternal power of our Father God. So His gifts and blessings are as He is- eternal, without end.

Revelation 21:3-7  “I heard a loud voice out of heaven saying, “Behold, God’s dwelling is with people, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.  (4)  He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.”  (5)  He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” He said, “Write, for these words of God are faithful and true.”  (6)  He said to me, “I have become the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give freely to him who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life.  (7)  He who overcomes, I will give him these things. I will be his God, and he will be my son.”

Revelation 7:14-17 “I told him, “My lord, you know.” He said to me, “These are those who came out of the great tribulation. They washed their robes, and made them white in the Lamb’s blood.  (15)  Therefore they are before the throne of God, they serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will spread his tabernacle over them.  (16)  They will never be hungry, neither thirsty anymore; neither will the sun beat on them, nor any heat;  (17)  for the Lamb who is in the middle of the throne shepherds them, and leads them to springs of life-giving waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Isaiah 25:6-9  “In this mountain, Yahweh of Armies will make all peoples a feast of choice meat, a feast of choice wines, of choice meat full of marrow, of well refined choice wines.  (7)  He will destroy in this mountain the surface of the covering that covers all peoples, and the veil that is spread over all nations.  (8)  He has swallowed up death forever! The Lord Yahweh will wipe away tears from off all faces. He will take the reproach of his people away from off all the earth, for Yahweh has spoken it.  (9)  It shall be said in that day, “Behold, this is our God! We have waited for him, and he will save us! This is Yahweh! We have waited for him. We will be glad and rejoice in his salvation!”

We need to start with a quick look at the definition of “Eternal.”

From G165; perpetual (also used of past time, or past and future as well): - eternal, for -ever, everlasting, world (began).

The Reflection Of The Eternal Character Of God

We must understand the surety and unfailing power of God, since all these gifts we will receive come from Him through Jesus. We will reinforce that this blessing will never fail, nor exhaust, never leave, and never end. This is only because God is all of these permanent characteristics. 

-To Serve The Eternal God

Romans 16:26-27  “but now is disclosed, and through the prophetic scriptures has been made known to all the nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith –  (27)  to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be glory forever! Amen.”

-To Live With The Eternal King

1 Timothy 1:16-17 “But here is why I was treated with mercy: so that in me as the worst, Christ Jesus could demonstrate his utmost patience, as an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.  (17)  Now to the eternal king, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever! Amen...”

1 Timothy 6:13-16 “I charge you before God who gives life to all things and Christ Jesus who made his good confession before Pontius Pilate,  (14)  to obey this command without fault or failure until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ  (15)  – whose appearing the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, will reveal at the right time.  (16)  He alone possesses immortality and lives in unapproachable light, whom no human has ever seen or is able to see. Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made. So people are without excuse.”

Daniel 7:13-14 “I was watching in the night visions, “And with the clouds of the sky one like a son of man was approaching. He went up to the Ancient of Days and was escorted before him.  (14)  To him was given ruling authority, honor, and sovereignty. All peoples, nations, and language groups were serving him. His authority is eternal and will not pass away. His kingdom will not be destroyed.”

1 Kings 10:8-9 “Your attendants, who stand before you at all times and hear your wise sayings, are truly happy!  (9)  May the Yahweh your God be praised because he favored you by placing you on the throne of Israel! Because of the LORD’s eternal love for Israel, he made you king so you could make just and right decisions.”

Psalms 110:4 “The LORD makes this promise on oath and will not revoke it: “You are an eternal priest after the pattern of Melchizedek.”

Hebrews 9:14  “How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without defect to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

The Gifts OF All Gifts

We must receive Eternal Life to be able to receive and unlock all other eternal gifts. 

-Eternal Life

1 John 5:11-12 “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  (12)  The one who has the Son has this eternal life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have this eternal life.”

Romans 6:22-23 “But now, freed from sin and enslaved to God, you have your benefit leading to sanctification, and the end is eternal life.  (23)  For the payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 5:21  “So that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 2:6-7 “He will reward each one according to his works:  (7)  eternal life to those who by perseverance in good works seek glory and honor and immortality,”

Matthew 7:24-27  "Therefore, everyone who listens to these messages of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock.  (25)  The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, but it did not collapse because its foundation was on the rock.  (26)  "Everyone who keeps on hearing these messages of mine and never puts them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.  (27)  The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and battered that house, and it collapsed, and its collapse was total."

Look Upon Jesus and Believe

John 6:40 “For this is the will of my Father – for everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him to have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

2 Peter 1:11-12 “For thus an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be richly provided for you.  (12)  Therefore, I intend to remind you constantly of these things even though you know them and are well established in the truth that you now have.”

2 Corinthians 5:1-4 “For we know that if our earthly house, the tent we live in, is dismantled, we have a building from God, a house not built by human hands, that is eternal in the heavens.  (2)  For in this earthly house we groan, because we desire to put on our heavenly dwelling,  (3)  if indeed, after we have put on our heavenly house, we will not be found naked.  (4)  For we groan while we are in this tent, since we are weighed down, because we do not want to be unclothed, but clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.”

For God the Father has put his seal of approval on him.”  (28)  So then they said to him, “What must we do to accomplish the deeds God requires?”  (29)  Jesus replied, “This is the deed God requires – to believe in the one whom he sent.”

Revelation 22:2 “In the middle of its street. On this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruits, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”

-Eternal Glory

1 Peter 5:6-11 “And God will exalt you in due time, if you humble yourselves under his mighty hand  (7)  by casting all your cares on him because he cares for you.  (8)  Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is on the prowl looking for someone to devour.  (9)  Resist him, strong in your faith, because you know that your brothers and sisters throughout the world are enduring the same kinds of suffering.  (10)  And, after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.  (11)  To him belongs the power forever. Amen.”

2 Corinthians 4:17-18  “For our momentary, light suffering is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison  (18)  because we are not looking at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.”

1 Corinthians 15:52-58 “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.  (53)  For this perishable body must become imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.  (54)  But when this perishable body will have become imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then what is written will happen: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”  (55)  “Death, where is your sting? Hades, where is your victory?”  (56)  The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  (57)  But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  (58)  Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

We also read:

Proverbs 10:22 “Yahweh’s blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.”

                       The Take Away

Matthew 6:19-21 “Don’t layup treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal;  (20)  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal;  (21)  for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

The Wicked Will Only Receive Eternal Destruction

2 Thessalonians 1:5-12 “This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of God’s Kingdom, for which you also suffer.  (6)  Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you,  (7)  and to give relief to you who are afflicted with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,  (8)  punishing those who don’t know God, and to those who don’t obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus,  (9)  who will pay the penalty: eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,  (10)  when he comes in that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired among all those who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.  (11)  To this end we also pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire of goodness and work of faith, with power;  (12)  that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

As we can clearly see, those who accept and obey Jesus will receive Eternal gifts and blessings. Those things will change us forever and will last forever. The wicked who refuse will not receive these blessings. They will only gain to themselves eternal destruction. This is sad, yet many Christians are being perverted by the world and overcome by the desires of the flesh. They do not put their hearts in heaven by storing up their treasure there. Forfeiting our Father God’s best in the eternal, for the wealth of this earth that is temporary. God is not pleased that His precious gift purchased by the blood of Jesus is being rejected by the world and even His church. I strive not to hurt my Father’s heart by entangling myself into the affairs of this world. I want to show my appreciation and respect by giving my all to His calling and His way. So on that last great day, He will smile when my name is called, and not feel the cutting pain of rejection by me. He is worthy and His eternal kindness deserves the proper response. May we all respond with Sacrificial Obedience in Eternal Love!
